Climate Change and Our Historic Churches

Our conservation architect visited St Denys’ Church (Grade I listed) in Killingholme yesterday to meet with the churchwardens and assess several significant structural cracks that have appeared throughout the building. In recent months, we’ve observed similar problems emerging in a number of churches across the Lincolnshire Wolds.

Many of these remarkable buildings have stood for more than eight centuries, yet a significant share of the defects we see today have emerged within the past hundred years. More frequent long and dry summers are causing clay-soil to shrink, placing growing stress on these historic structures.

Even so, much can be done to protect them. Sensitive specialist structural repairs, using appropriate conservation-led techniques and materials can help safeguard these buildings for generations to come. If you care for a historic building and would value specialist guidance on defects, repairs, or alterations, we would be pleased to assist. Please feel free to get in touch.
